Kum Yan Methodist Church Woodlands Carepoint has been established in three stages:
Foundation (1996-1998)
It was a time of prayer. After a few years of praying by the pastoral and leadership team, a pioneer group consisting 15 members was commissioned in 1996 to go north – Woodlands. The group gathered and prayed for 1 year before holding the first bilingual (Cantonese and English) service on March 23 1997 at the Mission Point near the old check point. The number of attendees were few and small group meetings were held at times instead.
Striving (1999-2002)
It was a time of sowing. We moved to the Marsiling Apartments in the end of 1998. The bilingual service was changed to Mandarin in 1999. We made contact with numerous local residents through family visits, counselling workshops, English classes, gatherings and parties, as well as bi-monthly community outreach. We had our first Children service in 2000.
Growing (2003- present)
It has been a time of nurturing. Through Sunday School teaching, Bible study, discipleship and leadership training, believers have been nurtured to become disciples, bearing a clear calling to follow the great commandment of Jesus. Youth group was formed in 2004, which became the official Youth service in 2007.
